ALABASTER – After the results of the runoff for the 2025 Alabaster Municipal Election came in on Tuesday night, the results were too close to call and will be confirmed on Monday, Sept. 29.

After securing their spot in the runoff election for Alabaster City Council Ward 1, candidate Mike Myers received 261 votes and candidate Gerry J. Bivins received 259 votes on Sept. 23. Three remaining provisional votes needed to be confirmed by the Shelby County Board of Registrars before the election can be called.

The winner of the Ward 1 runoff will be announced during the Alabaster City Council meeting on Monday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. During the meeting, the City Council will receive sealed tape reports from the polling machines, documentation from the Board of Registrars validating the three provisional ballots and a sealed box containing the ballots.

The next term will mark the first time a new face has served as the Ward 1 representative on the Alabaster City Council in 17 years, as incumbent and sitting City Council President Sophie Martin decided not to seek reelection to a fifth term.

Myers is a 1998 graduate of Troy State with a Bachelor of Science degree in business management. He has lived in the city of Alabaster since 2007 and is married to his wife of 24 years, Kim, and he has two children: Carson and Ethan. He is a graduate of the first class of the Alabaster Government Academy and is the chairman of the Alabaster Downtown Redevelopment Authority.

He is married to his wife of 32 years, Janet, and has two children: Geria and Grant. Bivins is the founder and operator of Bivins Barbershop in Alabaster and serves as the pastor at Bethesda Apostolic-Montevallo.

During the initial election before runoff, Myers received 234 votes, Bivins received 201 votes and Angel Evans received 54 votes.
