Old Baker Farm ready to welcome back locals to pumpkin patch

HARPERSVILLE – As the temperatures begin to cool down and the leaves prepare to change colors, locals in Shelby County welcome the fall season and are preparing themselves to get out for all of the seasonal activities that are coming down the pipe.

Just like the season comes around each year, with it comes an exciting time for Old Baker Farm as the it opens its pumpkin patch for 2025 on Saturday, Sept. 27, with themes happening each weekend for the public to enjoy.

The pumpkin patch will be open Saturday, Sept. 27 to Friday, Oct. 31 for families to come and visit and spend time together.

Old Baker Farm put on its first pumpkin patch in 1998 at a point when the farm was going through financial struggles. As an experiment, the farm only hosted school field trips during its first year, before opening it up to the entire public in 1999.

The annual pumpkin patch will be open each day following its Sept. 27 open, with different times of operation depending on the day.

Weekdays will see the patch be open from 3-5 p.m.. On the weekends, the patch will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and 1-5 p.m. on Sundays.

In addition, most weekends will see the farm offer special themes for families to take part in and spark and enjoyment for all involved as they enjoy a day at the pumpkin patch together.

Old Baker Farm will host its kick-off weekend from Sept. 27-28 to welcome visitors back to the pumpkin patch for another year, with another weekend from Oct. 4-5 to allow visitors to enjoy all the farm has to offer.

From Oct. 11-12, visitors can enjoy Cowboy Day, where they can take a stroll through Tombstone, catch live-action shootouts, enjoy a bluegrass band and more.

The next weekend on Oct. 18-19 will be American History Weekend, where those who come to the pumpkin patch can learn from American War demonstrations reenactments, enjoy various moments of living history and even visit the Southeastern American Indian Camp.

The final weekend of October will be Festival Weekend from Oct. 25-26, where shop vendors and live music will be present, along with a carnival inspired by the 1800s for all to enjoy as the pumpkin patch nears its ends.

The pumpkin patch costs $13 per person to get in, with children 1 and under getting in for free. Concessions and live music will be available each weekend as well.
