CALERA – With the month of October continuing to move along, Halloween-related events are set to take place around Shelby County. Calera is no exception, as Calera Main Street and presenting sponsor Collectivus Church are holding the seventh annual Trunk or Treat festival at the Calera Courtyard on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is free for attendees of all ages and will provide a fun option for a pre-Halloween celebration for the entire community.

An early start option is available for families with children who have special sensory needs, offering a calmer and less overwhelming environment. They may gather inside Collectivus Church and enter the event at 5:15 p.m.

Decorated vehicles will be parked around the courtyard, behind the downtown shops. 17th Avenue will be closed during the event.

Organizations such as churches, businesses and civic groups are encouraged to participate by signing up to bring a trunk, help with activities, donate candy and volunteer for the evening.

All families are encouraged to bring their children out for an evening of family-friendly fun in a safe and controlled environment, preventing many of the potential dangers involved with trick-or-treating.

In addition to the trunk or treating, inflatables, fun activities and a variety of food trucks will be provided by Calera Main Street’s sponsors, ensuring people of all ages will be able to have an enjoyable experience at the event.

There will be room for 60 decorated and candy-filled trunks in and around the Calera Courtyard. A best trunk competition will take place throughout the evening, as well as a variety of costume contests.

Those interested in signing up to provide a trunk can do so at downtowncalera.org, where a registration form is listed. Additional setup details will be sent before the event.

Calera Main Street is searching for volunteers to assist with setting up, running games and activities, greeting and directing guests and helping with cleanup. For more volunteer information, more information about the event or information on becoming a sponsor, email events@downtowncalera.org.
