ALABASTER – Attendees will be able to enjoy a magical evening designed just for them during the Welcome to Hollywood Prom for teenagers with special needs.
God Did It Ministries will host a special needs prom on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 6-7 p.m. at the Alabaster campus of Cultivate Church, which is located at 509 First Street SW, Alabaster, AL 35007.
“I’m very excited,” said Sanchez Tanniehill, founder of God Did It Ministries. “We want to create a space where children with special needs feel truly welcomed, valued and loved.”
Tanniehill said that some students with special needs get a chance to go to regular proms, but there are times when the spaces are too loud for individuals with sensory needs. With the Welcome to Hollywood Prom, Tanniehill hopes to find a solution and create a space that’s welcoming for those individuals—complete with a sensory room in partnership with Kulture City.
Attendees will enter the event in glamorous fashion as a red carpet will be rolled out from the outside and lead into the foyer as guests are welcomed inside.
“When they arrive on the campus, they’ll feel welcome,” Tanniehill said. “Then we’re going to roll out the red carpet… We’re going to do like paparazzi (shoots) right there, taking pictures.”
During the prom, guests can enjoy a night of music, dancing, photo ops, snacks and connection with others. Cultivate Church shared that each attendee will be paired with a trained buddy or caregiver so that they can enjoy the evening safely and fully. The event is intended for teenagers who are ages 14-21.
“Come as fancy or fun as you’d like—we’ll roll out the red carpet either way,” read an official post by Cultivate Church.
Spots are limited, so those interested are encouraged to register by the deadline, which is Wednesday, Oct. 8.
“Just come out and let your hair down, enjoy yourself,” Tanniehill said. “The parents can drop them off, and if they want to stay, they can stay, but I encourage them to drop to off and go do what they want. Go do a little shopping and we’ll take it from there.”
