Montevallo sweeps Indian Springs to finish regular season

CALERA – Coming off a dominant area win over the Demopolis Tigers, the Montevallo Bulldogs looked to finish off the regular season on another positive note as they took on a county foe in Indian Springs School.
Montevallo did just that and defeated Indian Springs in a 3-0 sweep on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at one of the team’s temporary homes of Calera Middle School.
The Bulldogs won their previous meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at Indian Springs School in 3-0 fashion, which gave them an added edge going into the return matchup.
Montevallo got off to a strong start as it took an early lead and carried it through until the end of the set. The Bulldogs ended up securing the first-set win by a score of 25-16, and that set the tone for the rest of the match.
Montevallo stepped on the gas in the second set and quickly raced ahead to a double-digit advantage. The Bulldogs kept Springs from getting close down the stretch and built on its lead with a second-set win.
In the end, Montevallo won the second set in 25-5 fashion and extended its lead to 2-0 in the match.
Indian Springs bounced back in the third set and got more points on the board over the course of the set. However, the Bulldogs remained in control and finished off the sweep in the third set.
Montevallo finished off the win with a double-digit victory in the third set as it won by a score of 25-15 to earn the 3-0 sweep.
Zoe Jones led the Bulldogs with a double-double, earning a team-high 13 kills along with 10 aces. Hunter Jordan also got into double figures with 11 kills, and Rosemery Hernandez racked up 25 assists while sending passes to Jones and Jordan among others.
Blakely Baggett led the team with eight digs while also securing six kills and five aces.
Montevallo finished the regular season with a 20-12 record. The Bulldogs are off until Thursday, Oct. 16 when they will travel to Jemison High School for the Class 5A, Area 5 tournament.
Montevallo will face Demopolis in the semifinals, with a win putting it in the finals against the winner of Jemison and Selma immediately after.
Indian Springs will finish out the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. against the Holy Family Catholic Tornadoes.
