ALABASTER – As the Thompson Warriors entered the field at Warrior Stadium for the final time in the 2025 regular season, one thought was on their mind—dominance.
For head coach Mark Freeman and his squad, it was another night of playing the game that they love, but they still had things to prove, and by the powers vested in KJ Jackson and Urijah Casey, the Warriors made a statement in a homecoming win.
From the moment the opening kick-off happened and the pads started making contact, Thompson went to work with ease.
The Warriors opened up their offensive day with a 53-yard pass from Trent Seaborn to Darion Moseley, and just five plays later were in the end zone as Jackson caught a 4-yard pass on the right side for an early touchdown, putting Thompson up 7-0.
That touchdown was just one of five that Jackson and Casey combined for as the Warriors cruised to a 56-10 win over the Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa Patriots on Friday, Oct. 10, securing another win in region play.
“It means everything (to win),” said Thompson head coach Mark Freeman. “We brought intensity. I think we had a great week of practice and it was homecoming week, a lot of things that you would think would work against us. The kids were very mature tonight. We were out of school today, had homecoming last night, homecoming all week and being out of school today always concerns you as a high school coach, but I was very happy and blessed to see them come out with great intensity tonight.”
Jackson was not going to stay silent for long though, as after the Thompson defense forced a three-and-out on the Patriots’ first drive, the offense came back out to put together another short drive, capped off in five plays with a 16-yard touchdown reception for the running back’s second trip to pay dirt of the night.
Hillcrest wanted to make a response to that score and drove down the field in energetic fashion, but the Warriors defense stood strong, forcing a field goal with 11:44 in the second quarter and closing the score to 14-3.
Not long after the small gash though, Thompson responded in Thompson fashion, throwing a deep ball to Pryce Lewis to get down inside the red zone once again before RJ Evans joined the party, running the ball up the middle for 4 yards and another touchdown, extending the score back out to 21-3.
Shortly after, the Warriors got the ball back again, and two plays later, Urijah Casey took the game by a storm, bursting through the seam up the middle for 55 yards and a loud touchdown, stamping his mark on homecoming.
The Patriots responded successfully though, putting together a full offensive drive nearing the end of a stagnant first half and saw quarterback Jordan Shambley run the ball in up the middle close to the goal line to get the game to 28-10.
Thompson kept driving though through its ground attack, and before long, the offense was back at its house in the end zone as Casey ran the ball up the middle for 15 yards and another score just before the half, sending both teams to the break with the score sitting at 35-10.
The second half proved to show much of the same for the Warriors, as Moseley made another deep-ball catch to help notch a 61-yard touchdown pass, going the distance to make it 42-10.
Shortly after with the defense showing force and racking up another three-and-out, Jackson secured a hat trick with another 2-yard touchdown, becoming the star of the show.
However, on the ensuing drive, Colton Moore stole the show as the senior picked up a loose ball off the ground on a sack fumble and ran it back for a score of his own to make it 56-10. To make things better, the defense picked up another fumble on the ensuing possession, but it could not convert.
Ultimately, the scoop and score was where the scoring stopped, and Thompson rolled to a win, moving to 6-2 on the year and 5-0 in the region.
On the night, Jackson finished with three rushes for 25 yards to go along with his three receptions for 43 yards and a combined three touchdowns on the night. His counterpart in Casey ran two times for 78 yards and two touchdowns, cementing a night that Freeman was very proud of.
“They’re both really tremendous people first and you love to see good people have success, and those guys work as hard as anybody on the team,” Freeman said. “They’re really great individuals and it just makes you proud for them to have great nights, and we need them to have good nights. We need to be able to open up some more holes for them to run the football down the road. In the playoffs, you never know the weather. We have to develop our running game and continue to get better at that.”
Seaborn also made himself known in another great, going 12-for-13 through the air with 262 passing yards and three touchdowns, a stat line he’ll want to build off of before next game.
Next week, an all-important showdown with the Hoover Buccaneers awaits at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium on Friday, Oct. 17, a game that always brings great energy, but is one the Warriors will have to prepare greatly for.
“They are a very good team, they’re very talented, probably got as much talent or more than anybody in the region,” Freeman said. “They’re dangerous. They’ve got so many weapons—Jonah (Winston), such a great football player. They’ve got three really good running backs, the defense is a really active front. Hoover does a great job… I think it’s going to be a great high school football game.”
