ALABASTER – Attendees traveled from table to table, collecting platters featuring a variety of flavors from businesses across the city of Alabaster during the fifth annual Taste of Alabaster.

The Alabaster Business Alliance hosted the fifth installment of its annual Taste of Alabaster event on Thursday, Oct. 9, from 6-9 p.m. at Siluria Brewing Company at 145 First Ave. West, Alabaster, AL 35007. The event was made possible by title sponsors Tracy Coyne Arc Realty and SouthPoint Bank.

“This year went better than any year before,” ABA President Tracy Coyne said. “The fifth year so far has been our best year. We raised the most funds we’ve ever raised with both ticket sales and sponsorships.”

During the Taste of Alabaster, attendees were able to sample a selection of dishes from the variety of vendors present at the event, which are all local businesses based in Alabaster. The booths for vendors were spread out inside Siluria Brewing Company as well as at the business’s outdoor patio area.

“Everybody that I talked to or have heard from after absolutely loved it,” Coyne said. “They loved the layout, they loved being able to spread out outside again. I’m hearing great feedback on the band, and the food itself was fantastic.”

The following restaurants and businesses will be present at the fifth annual Taste of Alabaster:

  • Chubbfathers
  • Big Whiskey’s American Restaurant and Bar
  • Brother Paul’s BBQ
  • Hey Bebe Where Yat?
  • Gumbo to Geaux
  • Birds and Burgers
  • Joe’s Italian
  • The Copper Train
  • The Italian Cookie Company
  • Tabletop Games
  • Whisk Confections
  • Momo’s Cajun Eatz

As part of a new tradition, throughout the event, a “best bite” competition took place where attendees could vote for the restaurant they liked best. At the end of the evening, the winning restaurant was Hey Bebe Where Yat?, which is a new business that is also new to the Taste of Alabaster. Brother Paul’s BBQ received second place for “Best Bite.”

“Over half of the people that attended voted on their favorite bite of the night through QR codes on the tables, and we had an overwhelming win,” Coyne said. “Hey Bebe hung the plaque on their wall within an hour of leaving the Taste of Alabaster. They are extremely proud and happy for the response from all the people that came by and tasted their food.”

Coyne expressed her gratitude to Siluria Brewing Company for its support and for being willing to host the annual event for the past five years.

“Thank you to Siluria Brewing Company for allowing us to host this event for five years,” Coyne said. “It’s provided the most perfect space for us to hold it.”

Tickets to the event were $20, and once inside, participants were able to sample any of the restaurants they wanted in addition to purchasing beverages from Siluria Brewing Company. All proceeds from the event went toward funding the Alabaster Business Alliance Scholarship Fund, which helps to pay for scholarships for graduating seniors in the city of Alabaster.

With 215 people in attendance at this year’s Taste of Shelby County, the ABA was able to raise approximately $8,000 to be used for scholarships.

“I’m very excited,” Coyne said. “In May of next year, I’ll be able to be part of the awards program at Thompson High School and give every bit of this out in scholarship money to students for either college or trade training school. We’re very excited to be able to do that.”

With five years of the annual Taste of Alabaster tradition complete, Coyne shared that she looks forward to the event progressing in the coming years as the ABA continues to support local students and highlight local businesses.

“We just want it to be as big as possible every year,” Coyne said. “We want the Taste of Alabaster to continue to be big. We also want to be able to continue to showcase new restaurants and places that people may not be aware of.”
