MONTEVALLO – The Montevallo City Council on Monday, Oct. 13, officially approved the site development plan for the long-awaited Cobblestone Hotel and Suites, marking another major step toward bringing a new 54-room hotel to the city’s downtown corridor.

The approval came during the council’s regularly scheduled meeting at City Hall following a public hearing on the proposal. The plan—submitted by BriMark Builders LA, LLC, on behalf of Cobblestone Hotels and the city of Montevallo—calls for the hotel to be built at 555 Main Street, at the southwest corner of Main and Shelby streets.

Mayor Rusty Nix noted that the project has received approvals from every relevant city body, including the Design Review Committee, Planning and Zoning Commission and the Arbor and Beautification Board.

“This has been approved by the Design Review Committee, this has been approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission. The landscaping has been approved by the Arbor and Beautification Board,” Nix said.

Councilperson Kenny Dukes expressed enthusiasm about the project’s impact on downtown Montevallo.

“This hotel is going to be an asset; it’s a beautiful facility designed to fit within our downtown corridor, and I think it’s going to be a wonderful asset to the city of Montevallo moving forward,” Dukes said.

The Cobblestone Hotel and Suites will feature 54 rooms, hot breakfast, high-speed internet, a swimming pool, meeting areas, a business center and a conference room. It will be designed to complement the architectural character of Main Street and enhance the city’s growing tourism economy.

The project has been years in the making. After breaking ground in September, city officials and developers said the hotel represents a long-term goal shared by the city, the University of Montevallo, Shelby County, the Montevallo Development Cooperative District and 58 Inc. Construction is expected to begin soon, with an anticipated opening in late 2026 or early 2027.

During Monday’s meeting, the council also approved several other items of business:

– A $12,020 quote from Adams Flooring Solutions, LLC for the removal and replacement of flooring at the Grady Parker Senior Center. “This is a much-needed improvement,” Nix said. “The floors were getting to be in hideous shape.”

– A request to add power service to the stage area at the Pecan Grove, which will incur a minimum monthly billing of approximately $45.

– A $5,014 purchase request from Public Works for parking and curb paint sprayer striping machines, to be funded from the city’s Capital Reserve.

In addition, the council issued a Domestic Violence Awareness Month proclamation, reappointed Julie Smitherman to the Design Review Committee for a term expiring Oct. 13, 2028 and approved payment of bills on the consent agenda.

The next regular Montevallo City Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 27, at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
