MONTEVALLO – Local youth and families will soon have the chance to engage directly with law enforcement officers in an event designed to foster understanding, trust and open communication.
The Shelby County Branch of the NAACP and the Shelby Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will co-host “Law Enforcement and Me: An Interactive Conversation with Law Enforcement Agents and Families” on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 5 p.m. in the University of Montevallo Humanities Building.
The free, public event aims to bring together tweens, teens and their families for an honest dialogue with officers from local and state agencies. Through open discussion, games and hands-on activities, participants will explore how to safely interact with law enforcement while building mutual respect and understanding.
“This event is about education, empathy and empowerment,” said a spokesperson for the Shelby County Branch of the NAACP. “We want young people to feel both informed and respected—and we want law enforcement to hear their voices firsthand.”
Organizers describe Law Enforcement and Me as more than just a conversation—it’s a bridge-building experience that allows youth and officers to connect in meaningful ways. Attendees will have the chance to ask candid questions, learn practical safety guidance and discover local mentoring and youth development programs available throughout Shelby County.
The evening will also include giveaways, refreshments and information from organizations dedicated to supporting young people and promoting community safety.
Both co-hosting organizations bring a long history of service and advocacy to the event’s mission. The Shelby County Branch of the NAACP continues its work to ensure equality of rights and eliminate race-based discrimination, while the Shelby Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. remains committed to strengthening communities through education, economic empowerment and civic engagement.
