PELHAM – Sav-A-Life Shelby, a pregnancy resource center located in Pelham, is hosting an online auction from Monday, May 19 to Friday, May 23 that will raise funds for the organization.

The Bid for Life online auction is set to support women and babies in crisis, with every bid helping provide free, life-affirming services to women and babies in the Shelby County community. Items to bid on include 75 pounds of fresh ground beef in a personal freezer donated by Thousand Hills Cattle, a four-day three-night vacation getaway, Alabama football memorabilia, original artwork from Griffith Art Gallery and local artists, gift cards, leadership books and more.

“Every dollar raised through the auction helps us continue offering free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, parenting classes, baby supplies and most importantly—hope,” read a statement from Sav-A-Life Shelby. “Let your bid be a lifeline. Bid for Life—Give, Bid, Change a Life.”

Bobby Lewis, the executive director of Sav-A-Life Shelby, explained that the auction is one of two fundraisers the organization holds each year, with a fall gala coming Sept. 26.

“We have done several different things through the years during the spring fundraiser,” Lewis said. “We’ve had a clay shoot, we’ve done golf tournaments and we’ve done Walk for Life events. This year we wanted to do something a little different and wanted to reach out to our partners and have them contribute and do an online auction.”

Lewis stated that 100 percent of the funds go to Sav-A-Life Shelby’s mission of supporting women in unexpected pregnancies.

“Every item that people bid on and every dollar that we raise through the auction goes directly towards supporting women who are facing unexpected pregnancies all right here in the community,” Lewis said. “We offer free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds. In addition, we help equip parents through tangible items such as diapers, formula, car seats, cribs and strollers. These dollars also help us walk with (mothers) through two years of a baby’s growth.”

Outside of the auction, Lewis said that the best ways to support Sav-A-Life Shelby is through volunteering and financial support. He concluded that while the auction offers a variety of unique items, it’s about more than that.

“It’s not about just winning an auction item,” Lewis said. “They’re actually helping a mom choose life for her baby and find hope for herself.”
