Pelham City Schools closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21 due to winter weather

PELHAM – Pelham City Schools has announced that all schools will be closed and classes will be canceled on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The closures come amidst the impending winter weather threatening Shelby County.

“Due to the possibility of extreme cold and hazardous road conditions, Pelham City Schools will be closed and classes will be canceled on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025,” read a Facebook post from Pelham City Schools. “Stay warm, stay safe and enjoy the day.”

According to National Weather Birmingham, located in Calera, Shelby County is currently under a cold weather advisory from 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20 through 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. NWS expects wind chills of 5 to 15 degrees and temperatures of 10 to 20 degrees.

NWS recommends that individuals use caution while traveling outside and wear appropriate attire. To prevent freezing and possible bursts of pipes, it is suggested that individuals should wrap or drain pipes or allow them to drip.
