Big Bad Breakfast moves closer to opening Pelham location

PELHAM – Big Bad Breakfast, a chain that boasts classic Southern breakfast food, is moving closer to opening a location in Pelham.

When initially announced in the fall of 2024, the restaurant was planning on opening in the spring of 2025. Now, a “Coming Soon” sign has been installed at the location, and the restaurant has officially submitted plans to the city for review.

The restaurant, developed by award-winning chef John Currence, serves biscuits, omelets, grits and more in dozens of locations across the South.

The new location of the restaurant will be situated next to the existing Taco Mac as a part of the Canopy at Oak Mountain. It will be situated across the street from the Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena.

The Canopy was developed by two developers—GenRey Properties and Weldenfield. At the time of the restaurant’s announcement, GenRev President John Benner discussed the exciting news.

“We’re excited to welcome Big Bad Breakfast to the Canopy,” Benner said. “Their dedication to great food and exceptional service fits perfectly with the Canopy’s goal of bringing new and vibrant restaurants and other businesses to the people of Pelham and north Shelby County.”

Popular menu items include the “Cathead” Chicken Biscuit, which contains crispy fried chicken, cheddar cheese and sausage gravy. Other specialties include the “Hangtown Style” Fried Oyster Scramble, which is two eggs scrambled with bacon, onion, tomato, potatoes, mayonnaise and topped with fried Gulf oysters and sliced serrano chilis.
