PELHAM – The Country Cattery, a local nonprofit whose mission is to rescue and safeguard the lives of cats, recently held a fundraiser supporting its cause on Saturday, May 17.
The Show Me Your Kitties Fundraising Event was held at Blues, Bourbon, & Brews in Pelham from 4-7:30 p.m. The restaurant provided food and drink throughout the evening, and the band More Cowbell provided entertainment to patrons as well.
The event also featured a diverse silent auction showcasing exclusive items from celebrities, hospitality, sports figures, artisans and industry professionals. General admission for the event was $20, costing $25 at the door.
“It takes a village to do what we do,” said Terry Bruno, the Country Cattery’s president. “Thank you for being part of our village.”
Bruno expressed her contentment with how the fundraiser went, citing a great turnout and fun environment.
“It went very well,” Bruno said. “We had a lot of traffic… We were pretty happy with the outcome of the whole event.”
Bruno added that More Cowbell’s performance was one of the bigger highlights of the evening.
“I have worked with them in the past,” Bruno said. “They are just a magnificent band. They are very high energy and very good, so they kept people on their feet. It was a lot of fun.”
According to Bruno, the funds raised from the event will go towards the Pawsitive Impact Project. The project helps the Country Cattery trap, neuter, release and vaccinate cats and kittens that are strays or community cats. The funds also help the Country Cattery help low-income families get affordable spay and neuter services for their cats and kittens.
“(Community support) is vital,” Bruno said. “We don’t get any kind of funding from government or city entities. We (operate) strictly on donations from the public… We really do need the public to step up and support us in our mission to save as many (feline) lives as we can.”
