Chris Townes announces candidacy for Pelham City Council

FROM STAFF REPORTS

PELHAM – Christine “Chris” Townes has officially announced her candidacy for Pelham City Council, Place 3, bringing with her a bold and fresh vision for the city’s future. A longtime resident, devoted mother of five—including two United States Marines—and a woman of deep faith, Townes is running on a platform of unity, progress and purposeful leadership.

“As someone who has lived, served and raised a family in this community, I believe it’s time to move Pelham into its next great chapter,” said Townes. “One defined by vision, opportunity and a renewed sense of pride in all that our city can become.”

With a track record of civic and community engagement, Townes’ leadership is grounded in both experience and compassion. Her community involvement includes:

  • Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, helping build homes and hope
  • Working alongside state representatives in various civic roles
  • Serving in ministry outreach at Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women through the Alabama Department of Corrections

If elected, Townes plans to prioritize:

  • Modernizing Pelham’s infrastructure and revitalizing its main corridor
  • Attracting major businesses to grow the local economy and create jobs
  • Enhancing parks and recreational spaces, including making Pelham’s baseball parks a premier destination for play
  • Collaborative leadership with the mayor, city manager and fellow council members
  • Promoting a forward-thinking mindset: “Why not in Pelham?”

“I’m not afraid to ask tough questions or push creative ideas. I lead with integrity, grounded in faith and I believe in smart growth that honors our values and builds for the future,” Townes said. “Pelham deserves to be a front-runner—not an afterthought.”

With a passion for service and a heart for people, Townes is inviting the community to join her in creating a brighter future for Pelham.
