HELENA – The Helena City Council called a special meeting to appoint Madison Harris as the new treasurer and acting city clerk for the city of Helena on Friday, Sept. 27.
In the resolution passed by the city council, Harris will be granted the authority and responsibility of the city clerk role for up to 45 days. This gives the city 45 days to name a permanent successor to the position.
According to Council President Alice Lobell, Harris’s appointment to acting city clerk comes in the face of the retirement of former city clerk Amanda Traywick.
“Madison is going to be our acting city clerk for up to 45 days due to the retirement of Amanda Traywick who has been our city clerk for a long time,” Lobell said. “Madison will be acting until a replacement is named.”
Before her appointment, Harris has spent almost six years working as the Accounts Payable clerk for the city of Helena. In this role, Harris managed invoices and purchase orders for six different city departments and assisted in municipal court.
Lobell believes that her experience working for the city will give Harris a smooth transition to her new position.
“She has been an employee of the city for several years, so she is very familiar with a lot of the daily things that go on and the duties of the city clerk,” Lobell said. “I really think that it will be a smooth transition to have her as acting city clerk.”
In addition to being appointed as the acting city clerk until such time as a replacement is named, Harris was sworn in as the new treasurer for the city of Helena. Unlike with the clerk position, Harris will keep this position indefinitely.
