Pelham moves forward with commercial development near library

PELHAM – A commercial development near the Pelham Public Library is underway to develop a new dining and retail hub in Pelham.

The new space is set to have a Bullet Coffee, a Waldo’s Chicken and Beer and an Edgar’s Bakery. The scope of the development was outlined by Michael Simon, Pelham’s economic development director.

“The project scope is to have the once city-owned 3.29 acres in front of the library developed into a restaurant/retail center to the benefit of those visiting the library, middle school and parks as well as the regular patrons of these establishments,” Simon said.

Along with the three new dining options, Simon added the city will be retaining some of the acreage.

“The city retained ownership of a portion of the land on the north side of the library that will be maintained as a public square or green space amenity to compliment the development,” Simon said.

Simon also gave an update on the official timeline of the project.

“The timeline for complete development of the project is two years,” Simon said. “Bullet Coffee is under construction and is a small building that should take 120-150 days to complete. Waldo’s Chicken and Beer has submitted construction plans for permit and will take approximately nine months to construct. There are two additional parcels for sale/development that will take time to sell, design and construct.”

With the new businesses coming to the area, Simon also emphasized that the infrastructure surrounding the development will be updated to accommodate them.

“All the new roadways and parking are internal to the project,” Simon said. “The existing stormwater system has been upgraded to accommodate more capacity and sufficient flow.”

Once completed, the new commercial development near the Public Library will stand to offer the public a variety of amenities with restaurants and green space to compliment the library itself. For more information, visit Pelhamalabama.gov.
