PELHAM – Surrounded by colleagues and friends, Pelham Councilmember David Coram announced that he will be running for reelection to Place 1 on the Pelham City Council on Thursday, Oct. 10.

After being elected in 2020, Coram is currently approaching the end of his first term on the City Council. He and his wife, Erin, have been residents of Pelham since 2008 and now call Pelham home along with their daughters.

Coram has more than 20 years of experience in hotel management and served 10 years in the United States Air Force. In addition, Coram was previously a deacon at First Baptist Church Pelham and has served as the chaplain for American Legion Matthew Blount Post 5555.

Coram announced his intention to run at a small gathering of family and supporters on Thursday night and presented his campaign slogan, “I did what I said I would do.”

When Coram originally ran for office in 2020, he built his platform around a set of priorities. Now, Coram reports that he has stayed faithful to his promises by securing money for Pelham schools, establishing new life safety services, improving city infrastructure and increasing communication.

“These were the things I set out to accomplish and as a body, we’ve been able to accomplish that as the City Council,” Coram said. “So unlike, unfortunately, a lot of our national leaders, I’ve done what I said I would do. That’s going to be kind of my motto moving forward. If I tell you I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it.”

During his announcement, Coram pointed to several accomplishments over the past four years including the construction of Fire Station 3, switching city services to Cahaba Solid Waste Authority and codifying new language for the sales tax that supports Pelham City Schools.

“I was in the military for 10 years, and anytime that we accomplished something that we were on a mission to do, we referred to the term mission accomplished,” Coram said. “I would say on that process we were mission accomplished.”

As he looks to the future, Coram cited several new priorities that he would like to accomplish in the future including repaving roads in Pelham, attracting new businesses and the completion of several city projects such as the Highway 261 widening, the Highway 52 flyover project and the Greenway Trail project.
