PELHAM – Live Nation has officially announced the intention to close Oak Mountain Amphitheatre and shift attention to the new venue under construction in Birmingham.

The Shelby County Reporter first reported on the closure in September, but Live Nation did not offer confirmation until a press conference on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

During the press conference, Live Nation announced that Coca-Cola Bottling Company United will be a title partner for the new amphitheater, which will be named the Coca-Cola Amphitheater.

Owned by the BJCC, the Coca-Cola Amphitheater will be managed by Live Nation and is scheduled to open in the summer of 2025. Currently, the first show is scheduled to be Thomas Rhett’s Better in Boots Tour on June 27, 2025.

At the press conference, Live Nation’s Jay Wilson confirmed the closing of Oak Mountain Amphitheatre during a media briefing following the partnership announcement with Coca-Cola.

“Oak Mountain Amphitheatre had a great 38-year run, and we are now turning our attention to the Coca-Cola Amphitheater right here in the Druid Hills neighborhood,” Wilson said.

The Shelby County Reporter first reported on the future of Oak Mountain Amphitheatre on Sept. 15 when the amphitheater’s official Facebook teased the upcoming Post Malone concert as the “last show here at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre.”

Later that same day, Live Nation updated the post and issued a correction that the Post Malone performance would be the last concert of the 2024 season.

Although Live Nation did not give further comment at the time, Pelham City Manager Gretchen DiFante shared that the city had no information about the future of the venue at that time.

“We don’t know what is going to happen,” DiFante said. “We don’t know if we will be hosting concerts next season or not. What we do know is that we will continue to be a positive partner with Live Nation as long as they are providing great entertainment in the city of Pelham.”

Despite Live Nation’s correction that the sold-out Post Malone concert on Oct. 15 would only be the final concert of the 2024 season, Post Malone himself hinted at the closing of the venue during a speech following an encore performance.

“I heard that this may be the last show at this venue, so thanks for making this a fantastic night,” Post Malone said.

As attendees departed Oak Mountain Amphitheatre that evening, they received a poster celebrating the venue’s 39 seasons of more than 500 shows and three million patrons from 1986 to 2024.

Despite the poster and Post Malone’s statement, Live Nation continued to decline to comment on the future of the Oak Mountain Amphitheatre.

Now, almost a month after the Post Malone concert, Live Nation has finally confirmed the closure of the Oak Mountain Amphitheatre in favor of the Coca-Cola Amphitheater.

As for the future of the venue, Pelham Communications Manager Ainsley Allison shared that “Live Nation indicated it wished to work with the city during the transition,” but the city is currently unaware as to what Live Nation plans to do with the property.

The development at The Canopy and upgrades at the Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena are just two examples of projects that we believe bring lasting value to our community. We continue to evaluate our investments to maximize their benefits and ensure they reflect Pelham’s vision for a vibrant and thriving city.”
