Montevallo set to host annual Arts Fest

MONTEVALLO – The Montevallo Arts Collaborative, a volunteer group dedicated to promoting and coordinating the arts in the Montevallo area, is set to host the Montevallo Arts Fest on Saturday, April 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event will be hosted at Orr Park, and admission is free. Artist booths, live music and kids’ activities and food will be featured at the event.

Melanie Poole, the chair of the Montevallo Arts Collaborative, further detailed the logistics of the event.

“We currently have over 120 artists who will be at the festival from surrounding states,” Poole said. “We have pottery, painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, textiles and metalworking. We also have 16 food vendors, so nobody is going to go hungry.”

The live music at the event, according to Poole, offers a depth and breadth of genres for those attending the Arts Fest.

“We have a wonderful music lineup that includes Daniel Bowden, Earth to Alice, The Martini Shakers, Hi-Fidelics and The Murder of Jane Crow,” Poole said. “(We also have) wonderful children’s activities throughout the day, and of course admission to the Montevallo Arts Fest is always free.”

Poole added that the Montevallo Arts Collaborative seeks to enrich the arts throughout Montevallo, not just at the Arts Fest.

“The Montevallo Arts Collaborative, who is the organization that puts on Arts Fest, is committed to bringing the arts to Montevallo and supporting local art,” Poole said. “Not only do we do that through Montevallo Arts Fest, but we host artists in the Parnell (Memorial) Library gallery and the City Hall gallery. We work with other artisan organizations in the area to all come together and support local artists.”
