Pelham Parks & Rec plans Mother/Son Blue Jean Ball

PELHAM – The mothers and sons of Pelham will have an opportunity to celebrate on the dancefloor this February.

The Pelham Senior Center will host a Mother/Son Blue Jean Ball on Friday, Feb. 7.

“Mothers, grab your sons,” read a statement from the Pelham Parks & Recreation department. “Pick out your favorite blue jeans and throw on some dancing shoes. The theme is Saddle Up & Gallop Up – Cowboy style.”

The Western-themed event will include food, music, dancing and games. Giveaways are also included in the event.

Tickets for the event cost $20 per mom and son. The age range for sons is five to 12 years old, with an additional $8 fee per any additional son a mom decides to bring.

Each ticket for the event includes a corsage for moms and a boutonniere for their sons, adding a formal touch to the event. Dinner and dessert is also included with the purchase of a ticket.

The event will run from 6-8 p.m. on Feb. 7 at the Pelham Senior Center. Registration for the event opens on Thursday, Jan. 2, and can be done online or in person at the Pelham Recreation Center. Space for the event is limited.

Alicia Walters, the assistant director at Pelham Parks and Rec, gave her thoughts on the theme and what inspired the creation of the ball.

“We are excited to offer this event for the first time,” Walters said. “Pelham Parks and Rec strives to offer programs for all ages and we know there are daddy/daughter dances in our community so we decided it would be a great idea to offer a dance for mothers and sons. We love creating themed events and who doesn’t like dressing up in cowboy boots and a cowboy hat? The entire evening will be in a cowboy theme, from the name tags to the drinkware.”

The food for the event, according to Walters, will be provided by Texas Roadhouse. Cowboy arts and crafts, including temporary tattoos, will be available.

Walters also emphasized the importance of the event to the city of Pelham as a whole.

“We believe these events are a huge part of building a community,” Walters said. “This is a different type of event and our hope is the community will get excited and come enjoy the evening.”

The Pelham Senior Center’s Mother/Son Blue Jean Ball offers mothers and sons the opportunity to spend a fun-filled evening together under a Western backdrop, with plenty of amenities offered to entertain guests.
