PELHAM – The city of Pelham is hosting an event to promote conservation in the area in partnership with Secure Shredding & Recycling.

The Spring Shredding & E-Recycling Event is planned for Saturday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to noon at Pelham City Hall. The event will provide Pelham residents free document shredding and electronic recycling services.

“Drop off up to six boxes of documents at the Secure Shredding trucks, which will be parked in front of City Hall,” read a statement on the city of Pelham’s website. “You don’t need to leave your car for this drive-through service.”

Wet paper and 3-ring binders will not be accepted at the event. Manila folders, envelopes and office paper will be amongst the accepted items, as well as stapes and paper clips. Binder clips are not allowed.

Pelham residents can bring their paper in any receptacle, and the boxes and bags used will be returned after documents are securely placed in the shredder.

For those looking to discard monitors, flat-panel monitors are free to discard, while CRT monitors cost $10 each. Secure hard drive destruction will also be available for $10 per drive. Television sets will not be accepted at the event.

Other items included for recycling include PCs, servers, cellphones, tablets and various electronics. Items not accepted include items containing mercury, lightbulbs, paint and liquids of any kind.

Pelham’s next shredding and e-recycling event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4 for those who miss the spring event. For more information, visit Pelhamalabama.gov.
