Pelham updating traffic signal timing

FROM STAFF REPORTS

PELHAM – The city of Pelham is partnering with the Alabama Department of Transportation to implement optimized signal timings at key intersections in Pelham. These changes are designed to improve weekday traffic flow during the morning, midday and afternoon hours, as well as during school traffic.

The following are the targeted intersections of the project:

  • AL-261 at Old Montgomery
  • U.S. 31 at Highway 261/Valleydale
  • U.S. 31 at Old Montgomery
  • U.S. 31 at Winslett (Wal-Mart)
  • U.S. 31 at Highway 119/Cahaba Valley

With the new timing plans, shorter cycle lengths are likely to occur at signals. These adjustments are designed to serve traffic movements more frequently, reduce backups and create a smoother driving experience overall.

The city will be conducting field observations and fine-tuning the signal timings in the coming days and weeks. For more information on the city of Pelham, visit Pelhamalabama.gov.
