Montevallo celebrates Walt Czeskleba Day holiday

MONTEVALLO – One of Montevallo’s most enduring personalities celebrated another year of serving the citizens of Montevallo on Saturday, Feb. 22.
Walt Czeskleba, the owner of Czeskleba TV Service, was honored once again on the “Walt Czeskleba Day” holiday. The holiday was proclaimed in 2022 by Montevallo’s mayor and City Council to honor 50 years of Czeskleba TV Service being in business.
With the business now being in its 53rd year, Czeskleba took the time to reflect on how he got started in the TV repair industry.
“I started working in a TV shop when I was 15 years old in Alabaster,” Czeskleba said. “I worked there through high school. Then I went to trade school in Birmingham for a year. I learned a lot, but not enough so I went to Childersburg to the trade school over there for two years. I learned a whole lot, and then I went back to work at the TV shop I was working at.”
After working hard as an employee, Czeskleba decided to take the reins of his own TV shop. Czeskleba TV Service opened its doors to the public on Feb. 22, 1972.
Czeskleba, despite specializing in TV repair, also works on antique clocks and swimming pool pumps and filters. A true jack-of-all trades, Czeskleba kept it simple on why he believes he’s still going strong after decades of work.
“I just love what I do, that’s why I’m still here,” Czeskleba said. “I still have TVs coming in, and I just love what I do.”
Walt Czeskleba remains easy to find in Montevallo. Peek your head through the door of a quaint television repair shop on Main Street, and you’ll find him. In fact, you could have found him there for the past half-century, with no signs of slowing down.
