Portion of I-65 shut down after multi-vehicle wreck

PELHAM – A portion of Interstate 65 southbound has been temporarily closed due to a multi-vehicle wreck.

Part of the highway is closed at Exit 242, which leads to Pelham and Helena. The multi-vehicle wreck occurred at mile marker 240.

Traffic is being rerouted to U.S. 31 south at Exit 242 so first responders can treat the injured in the wreck. Both Alabaster and Pelham Fire Departments are on the scene of the crash. Multiple patients are being transported for medical care.

Drivers in the area are advised to use caution. The situation is developing, with the severity of the injuries, the cause of the wreck and multiple other factors currently unknown.
