CALERA – Mutual Savings Credit Union held a grand opening celebration July 29 for its new branch in Calera.

The credit union has been in Calera for 10 years and was previously located inside the Calera Walmart.

“We wanted to go in a bit of a different direction to be able to provide additional services to our customers,” said Douglas Key, the credit union’s president and CEO. “We decided that this was a better opportunity for us.”

Mutual Savings Credit Union celebrated its 75th anniversary July 16.

“We’re enjoying that celebration today as we also open this new branch in Calera,” Key said.

The new location in the Calera Marketplace shopping center on Highway 70 features a drive-in window, additional inside space and a night deposit box.

“Those are things we did not have available to us at the other location,” Key said. “It’s very important to our membership and to us to be able to accommodate those things. This gives us a better footprint in the county.”

Key said he hopes the new branch will draw additional members from the community.

“We see this as a very positive sign for us, and a very positive indication that we are moving in the appropriate direction,” he said. “We hope to be as successful in our growth as Calera appears to have been in theirs.”

The Calera branch is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
