FROM STAFF REPORTS

AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of Montevallo junior Conner Godsey was named the Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week for the first time in his career Feb. 14 after capturing the individual championship at the Falcons’ first spring tournament of the 2012-2013 season.

Godsey fired rounds of 71 and 69 to fend off Anders Olsson of Georgia Southwestern State University and Nick Brothers of Saint Leo University to take the individual title at the Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate tournament Feb. 11-12 at Fleming Island Golf Club in Jacksonville, Fla.

Montevallo finished seventh overall in team standings in the tournament hosted by Wingate University and Lincoln Memorial University.

The Rogersville, Ala. native finished the tournament with four birdies and posted an eagle on the back nine in his final round.  The tournament win is the second of the year for Godsey, who also claimed the title at the Full Moon Bar-B-Que in the fall and lost in a playoff at the Indian Bayou Classic.

In five tournaments this year, the transfer from Wallace State Community College has three top-five finishes. Godsey is also currently sixth in the Peach Belt Conference with a 73.6 stroke average.

Godsey and his teammates return to action March 4-5 at the Samford University Intercollegiate tournament hosted by Hoover Country Club.
