After two sets in the Sept. 24 matchup with Oak Mountain, the Spain Park Jaguars volleyball team was on the verge of being swept at home, down 0-2.

Down, but not out.

After losing the first two sets of the match, 25-17 and 25-15, the Jaguars found themselves down 19-14 in set three before going on a 9-2 run to take the third set 25-20. Oak Mountain, who was without star player Hannah Beach due to illness, held a 14-12 lead in the fourth set as well, but a 5-1 run put Spain Park up 17-13. It would be the all the Jaguars needed as they took set four, 25-20.

In the final set, the two squads battled down to the wire, with Spain Park holding a 13-12 lead late. The Jaguars were able to hold off the Eagles, capturing the fifth set, 15-12 to complete the 3-2 comeback win.

“We had a game plan we started weeks ago,” said head coach Paula Dill. “We focused on that game plan, just executing and we stuck with that. It’s a confidence builder and a lesson learned to start strong.”

Morgan Scott had nine kills, Jordan Nakayama had seven kills, Madison Bearden had seven kills and Bailey Pereira had 14 digs in the win.

Bailey Rauschenberg had 16 kills, Madison Pierce had nine kills and a block, Hannah Bynum had 20 assists and five digs, Brianna Rueschenberg had 23 assists and five aces and Shayla Williams had four aces and 17 digs for Oak Mountain.
