Child porn suspect to appear in court Oct. 31

An Alabaster man charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 31, according to court documents.

Steven Christopher Kelban, whose residence is listed as being on Independence Drive, was booked into the Shelby County Jail on Sept. 24. He was arrested by state law enforcement agencies on Sept. 24, and is scheduled to appear before Circuit Court Judge Dan Reeves at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 31.

According to Kelban’s arrest warrant, he allegedly “did knowingly possess any obscene matter containing a visual depiction of a person under the age of 17 years of age engaged in any act of sado-machoistic abuse, sexual intercourse, sexual excitement, masturbation, genital nudity or other sexual conduct” on Aug. 30.

Kelban allegedly possessed sexually explicit webcam footage of an underage female, according to court documents.

Kelban appeared in court on Sept. 25 to be advised of his rights, according to court documents. He is being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $500,000.
