Montevallo man charged with multiple sex crimes

COLUMBIANA–A 42-year-old Montevallo man has been charged with multiple felony charges including two first degree attempted rape charges, four first degree attempted sodomy charges, five first degree sodomy charges and three charges of sexual abuse of a child less than 12.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office arrested Terry Lee Kemp, who lists an address on Shelby County 54 in Montevallo, on Oct. 1 and charged him with the multiple sexual charges.

According to his arrest warrants, Kemp allegedly subjected another person who is less than 12 years old to sexual contact between 2011-2015, engaged in deviate sexual intercourse by forcible compulsion with a victim who is less than 12 years old from 2011-2015 and between 2011-2012 had the intent to commit the crime of first degree rape.

Kemp remains in the Shelby County Jail on a $570,000 bond and a preliminary hearing has been set for Oct. 29 at 8:30 a.m.

First degree Sodomy is a Class A felony, and if convicted, Kemp could face up to life in prison.

First degree attempted rape, first degree sexual abuse of a child less than 12 and first degree attempted sodomy are all Class B felonies and each charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
