NORTH SHELBY—The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office North Substation is open for business. Located on U.S. 280 just east of Doug Baker Boulevard, the substation offers residents of the northern part of the county convenient access to SCSO services.

The North Substation is the SCSO’s fourth satellite location, and aside from the main location, the only one staffed with a fulltime receptionist. The substation will provide a range of services. Citizens can stop by to purchase or renew pistol permits and get copies of incident, offense and accident reports.

“That way they won’t have to drive all the way to Columbiana,” SCSO deputy Debbie Sumrall said. “It’s in a great location.”

Citizens can arrange to meet with a SCSO deputy at the North Substation to file a report or express a concern, rather than call a patrol car to their home or drive to the main location in Columbiana. This affords citizens more privacy and convenience, Sumrall explained.

“On the first day, a citizen wanted to meet with a deputy and file a report,” Sumrall said. “It’s a closer office for individuals (who) need to meet with a deputy and don’t want their neighbors to know.”

A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony will be held for the new facility on Monday, Oct. 19 at 10:30 a.m.

The North Substation is located in the Greystone Park Business Center, 5511 U.S. 280, Suite 117. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. To reach the North Substation by phone, call 670-6280.
