Four teams compete in Spartan Invitational

MOUNTAIN BROOK – Oak Mountain, Chelsea, Spain Park and Calera took part in the 15-team Spartan Invitational spanning from Dec. 11-12 at Mountain Brook High School. Oak Mountain was the top county finisher, coming in at No. 8 overall while Chelsea, Spain Park and Calera all fell below the Eagles.

Nick Diller, Mingyu Lee and Justin Evans each had five wins at the Invitational for Oak Mountain, which finished with 157.7 points. Diller was 5-3 at the tournament in the 145-pound class while Lee and Evans both wrestled in the 152-pound class. Lee finished with a 5-5 overall record while Evans went 5-4.

Chelsea was the next-highest county finisher at 11th with 94 points. Hunter Guarnieri and Clint Glaze were the only two Hornet wresters to finish with above-.500 records. Guarnieri, a freshman wrestling in the 120-pound division, finished 4-1 while Glaze, a sophomore wrestling in the 138-pound division, finished 6-5. Gavin Rigor and Thomas Limbaugh also finished with 3-3 records, Rigor in the 120-pound division and Limbuagh in the 285-pound division.

Spain Park, which placed 12th overall with 84.5 points, had three wrestlers post winning records. Jack Rivers went 4-1 in the 106-pound class and led the way for the Jaguars with a third-place finish overall. Harrison Shaull placed fifth in the 126-pound division with three pins as well for the Jaguars.

Alexander Hunter of Calera went 4-1 in the 182-pound division to lead the Eagles while Connor Banks and Jesse Davis both went 3-2 on the tournament in the 126-pound and 285-pound classifications, respectively, for Calera, which finished 13th with 58 points.
