Dunnam Plantation, circa 1960. Few of Helena’s early homes survive today. This photo of the Dunnam home in its waning years was one of the early grand homes in the area. The house was a story and half and was believed to have been built in the 1840s by Robert Bratton of York County, South Carolina. Elias B. McClellan, also of York County, purchased the house in 1860 and owned it until 1867, when he sold it to R.T. Dunnam and moved his family to Mississippi. Dunnam owned the farm until his death in 1896, when it passed to his son Charles. (Contributed/City of Helena Museum)
