‘In God We Trust’ will be displayed in Pelham council chambers

PELHAM – The Pelham City Council unanimously approved a resolution at its meeting Tuesday, Aug. 15, supporting the congressional approved national motto “In God We Trust.”

The council said the words will be prominently displayed in the council chambers.

Mayor Gary Waters also proclaimed September to be Gynecological Cancer Awareness Month in Pelham. The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 98,000 women are diagnosed with a gynecological cancer every year and more than 30,000 die from it.

City Hall lights will be teal throughout September in honor of Gynecological Awareness Month. Local businesses are asked to do the same.

In other business, the council:

-Approved the annexation of property located in The Highlands development into the city.

-Approved an ordinance to authorize the issuance of a $10 million general obligation warrant to First U.S. Bank with an interest rate of 1.52 percent.

-Approved a resolution to allocate up to $4,000 to Oak Mountain Lanes to host the AHSAA Bowling State Championships in 2017.
