Lady Warriors move on to national tournament with runner-up finish

The Alabama Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) 11U Alabama Lady Warriors recently finished runners-up at the Girls State Basketball Tournament held at Thompson High School May 17-19.
The Lady Warriors finished the tournament with a 4-2 record, only to be defeated by the Alabama Twisters.
The Lady Warriors will compete in late June against other teams from across the nation in the National AAU Basketball Tournament in Kingsport, Tenn.
&uot;The girls fought hard to accomplish this in spite of having to play six games in three days compared to the No. 1 team playing only three games in the tournament,&uot; coach Harold Mitchell said.
In game No. 1 the Lady Warriors defeated Bama’s Best of Cullman 52-41. Julia Venable scored 18 points in the win and Kirby Mitchell and Dani Feldman added 11 each.
In game No. 2, Rhonda Watts led the Lady Warriors to a 38-32 win over the Mobile Hurricanes with 15 points. Mitchell added 11 points.
The Lady Warriors’ first loss came in game No. 3 to the Alabama Twisters. Venable scored 19 points in the 53-31 loss.
The Warriors defeated Mobile in game No. 4 before meeting the Twisters again in game No. 5. Kayla Williams led the Lady Warriors with 14 points in a 45-43 win over the Twisters. Mitchell scored 11 in the win.
That win forced a game six championship match between the Warriors and Twisters. Mitchell and Venable each scored 11 points in the 54-43 loss
