The Alabaster All-Star team advanced to the World Series by winning its Metro All-Star Tournament.
The World Series opening ceremonies will be held July 21 with a parade for teams and coaches. The Olympic-style event will include a home run derby and picnic, among other planned events. More than 100 teams will participate in the tournament at Overland Park just outside Kansas City, Kan.
Alabaster Youth League is a self-funded organization. In order for the team to make the trip to the World Series, funds must be raised. The team has sponsored several events to raise funds, including a car wash and selling doughnuts.
Donations can be made to Alabaster Youth League, or AYL. According to AYL president David Strevel, all donations are tax deductible.
Anyone making a donation of $50 or more will be recognized on a sponsorship banner which will travel with the team to the World Series. Anyone interested in donating can call Strevel at 621-4087 or 664-1175
