Vines, Billings burn Hornets

Montez Billings caught 8 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns and Chris Vines completed 17-of-24 passes for 226 yards and 3 touchdowns as Pelham gave Chelsea its second straight loss last Friday night.

Billings scored on receptions of 54 and 42 yards respectively in the win. Vines also completed a scoring pass to Tyler Payne.

Pelham amassed 307 yards &045; 226 through the air and 81 on the ground &045; on the night, while allowing Chelsea just 139.

The Hornets gained 85 yards on the ground and 54 through the air.

The Panthers got on the board first with a team safety in the second quarter following a scoreless first quarter.

Later in the second quarter the Panthers took a 9-0 lead when Vines found Billings from 54 yards away. Rob Warren’s extra point gave Pelham a 9-0 lead at the half.

Pelham added to its lead in the third when Vines hit Payne from 6 yards out. Warren’s PAT gave the Panthers a 16-0 lead heading into the final period.

Chelsea cut into the Panther lead when John Hillin capped a drive with a 3-yard plunge for the score.

The PAT failed, and the Hornets had cut the lead to 10 at 16-6.

Pelham put the game away when Vines hit Billings with a 42-yard scoring strike in the fourth quarter. Warren’s kick made the final score 23-6.

Pelham will next play host to Clay-Chalkville Friday while Chelsea plays host to Montevallo
