The search is on at the University of Montevallo.

Men’s head basketball coach Jeff Daniels and Peggy Keebler, women’s head coach, were recently relieved of their duties.

&uot;Both Jeff and Peggy served the university well, it was just time for a change,&uot; said Mike Cancilla, Director of Athletics at UM.

&uot;It wasn’t anything bad. They both had good kids and a good, clean program. We just weren’t getting the results we needed on the court and it is just time to go in another direction,&uot; Cancilla said.

Cancilla said there is no closing date on when new coaches will be hired and the positions have been advertised nationally with the NCAA.

&uot;We would like to have both positions in place before students go home for the summer,&uot; Cancilla said. &uot;That way they can meet the kids.&uot;

As for the players, Cancilla said some are exploring other options at other universities.

&uot;There are some players who have been guaranteed their scholarships and places on the team and others have been told they will have to be evaluated by the new staffs when they arive,&uot; Cancilla said.

The search for replacements, according to Cancilla, is in the preliminary stage.

&uot;We have several resumes and applications we are sifting through right now,&uot; Cancilla said. &uot;Right now we are requiring that candidates have at least three years experience in the NCAA at the Division I or II level.&uot;

As for assistant coaches, Cancilla said each are presently fulfilling teaching duties in the Kinesiology Department. He also stated that the athletic department is still meeting with the assistants.

Daniels was at the university for eight years while Keebler served for five years
