A near-perfect season

The Oak Mountain Metro 18-and-under girls softball team completed the regular season undefeated with a record of 16-0.
The team also won the end-of-season league tournament. The league was made up of three teams from Vestavia and one from Mountain Brook and games were played at Heardmont Park, Liberty Park and Mountain Brook, with the tournament being held at Liberty Park. Oak Mountain also participated in a series of games with Chelsea.
The Oak Mountain Mud Dawgs, with members from the 18-and-under team, were ASA Metro Tournament Champions in three out of four tournaments and runners-up in the other. They completed tournament play with a near-perfect, 18-2 record.
The Oak Mountain team participated in the tournaments along with teams from Hoover, Clay, Chelsea, Gardendale, Moody, West End, Southside, Tarrant and Pinson. Three tournaments were hosted by Hoover at Hoover Girls’ Softball Park, and one tournament was hosted by Vestavia at Liberty Park.
The Mud Dawgs tournament players were Kathryn Adkinson, Allison Daniels, Becca Gellings, Bethany Gellings, Sarah Gentry, Kourtney Kelly, Kristen Main (alternate), Machelle Miller, Malissa Miller, Sarah Morton, Whitney Robinson and Amy Rochester.
The coaching staff consisted of head coach Joel Main, assistant coach Wayne Adkinson and pitching coaches Robert Gellings and Bill Morton.
Oak Mountain regular season team members included Adkinson, Daniels, Becca and Bethany Gellins, Gentry, Kelley, Main, Machelle and Malissa Miller, Morton, Robinson, Rochester, Jessica Carter, Amanda Dove, Mallory Hammond, Kersta Lesieur, Brittney Poole, Katie Shaw, Leila Shaw, and Casey Quesenberry.
