Accident kills baby, woman

From Staff Reports

Harpersville police are investigating a fatal Sunday accident that killed a 15-month-old foster child and a 55-year-old woman and injured four others, according to police chief Paul Brasher.

Brasher said the accident occurred at about 11:40 p.m. on Highway 280 between Sun Valley Road and Morningview Drive east of Highway 25.

He said the driver of a westbound sedan lost control of the vehicle which spun and crossed the median into the eastbound lane where it struck a pickup truck.

As of Tuesday morning, Brasher said the names of the fatalities were still being held pending notification of next of kin.

He confirmed the sedan driver was treated and released from University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital, and another foster child and passenger in the car remained in stable condition at Children’s Hospital.

He also confirmed two people in the pickup truck were treated and released from Brookwood Medical Center.

County Coroner Doug Ballard said he proclaimed the two deaths at the scene
