Montevallo police are looking for a blue truck following a hit-and-run incident Sunday morning that sent one woman to the hospital.

According to Lt. Baird Pickett of the Montevallo Police Department, a 23-year-old female resident of Montevallo underwent surgery for head injuries following the incident.

At about 2 a.m. Sunday, the 23-year-old victim and a friend were walking west on Island Street in downtown Montevallo.

Baird said the women were walking home.

He said the two women reported hearing a truck as it approached them from behind, but they said they did not see any headlights. Another witness also said the truck did not have headlights.

The truck struck the 23-year-old victim from behind and threw her 15 to 20 feet through the air, Baird said.

The impact of the collision caused the victim’s shoes and hat to come off, he said.

Baird said he believed the victim may have flown onto the hood of the truck and ricocheted.

The victim was unconscious as the truck sped away, running a stop sign and forcing another car off the road.

Baird said witnesses reported seeing the truck head toward Alabama Highway 25 from downtown Montevallo.

Baird said police are looking for a small truck, either light or dark blue in color. He believes the truck is either a Toyota or a Nissan model.

Police recovered some broken vehicle parts from the scene, including a wiper blade and glass from the headlights.

Baird advised that the suspect truck could have damaged windshield wipers and front headlights.
