More flu vaccine available to locals

A limited amount of flu vaccine is again available at the Shelby County Health Department while supplies last.
According to the Shelby County Health Department, flu shots were still available early this week.
The Shelby County Health Department holds a walk-in vaccine clinic each Thursday at its Pelham office.
Cathy Lee, immunization manager for Area Five of the Alabama Department of Public Health, said the several hundred flu shots in Shelby County should be enough.
Two flu shot clinics were held last Wednesday, in addition to the weekly Thursday clinic.
Lee said the health department will continue offering flu shots until supplies run out.
While many counties across the state ran out of flu vaccines following a late fall rush for shots, Shelby County actually never did.
According to Lee, a local hospital and other private offices donated flu vaccines to the health department once supplies ran low.
The flu in Alabama has slowed down, Lee said.
Influenza season arrived earlier than usual in 2003, and its complications have led to the deaths of 93 children in the U.S., according to the Alabama Department of Public Health
