Shelby Academy went 3-1 in the Pike Liberal Arts School spring break tournament over the weekend before topping Bessemer Academy 11-2 on Monday.

The Raiders (7-3-1) were tied for the tournament lead with three wins, said head coach Mark Windham, but finished second on a technical tiebreaker.

Shelby Academy swept Crenshaw Academy with an 18-8 win on Friday and a 10-4 victory on Saturday.

The Raiders split contests with Pike, winning 3-2 on Friday before falling 13-1 on Saturday.

Jake Ingram went 10-for-14 in the tournament with a home run, three doubles and six RBIs.

Kevin Lackey hit four singles, two home runs and five RBIs for Shelby Academy.

Vic Baker went 6-for-10 at the plate with two doubles, a triple and five RBIs while Randal Lewis added five singles, two doubles, a home run and five RBIs during the tournament.

Lackey, Josh Kervin and Jason Stokes each picked up wins on the mound for the Raiders.

In his first pitching performance of the season, Stokes fanned 10 batters and allowed six hits for Shelby Academy.

Stokes recorded his second victory and struck out six on Monday as the Raiders defeated Bessemer Academy.

Ryan Elm went 2-for-3 and scored three runs while Ingram went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

Lackey and Kervin each went 2-for-3 for the Raiders.

Thompson High School

After getting off to a 1-9 start, the Warriors improved their record to 14-14 Saturday after knocking off Oak Mountain.

Malachi Gandy pitched the last four innings in relief of Daniel Hamlin to lead the Warriors to the 5-4 win.

Gandy struck out five batters and gave up four hits in his performance.

Thompson was led at the plate by slugger Robert Schofield, whose two-run home run gave him seven on the year and sparked a Warrior rally in the top of the fifth inning after falling to an early 4-1 deficit.

Chris Myles hit a two-RBI double in the sixth inning to give Thompson the lead.

THS moved to 5-1 in area play with a 7-0 shutout of Brookwood last Friday.

Ryan Chase pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and striking out eight.

Schofield hit a 2-run home run in the Class 5A, Area 7 win.

The Warriors beat McAdory, 9-8, in a nine-inning battle last Tuesday.

Chase pitched four-and-one-third innings in relief to pick up the win.

Starter Austin Lucas struck out seven while Chase fanned 10 in the contest.

Chris Robbins tripled and hit a home run, while Chase added two hits and 2 runs. Nick Harris went 4-for-5 with 2 runs for Thompson
