The Town of Harpersville will attempt to make it until the next municipal election, set for August, without filling the District Two council seat left vacant by recently appointed Mayor Wayne Moore.

Moore was appointed by the council to fill the mayoral position held by Gloria Tate after she pled guilty to ethics violations and was banned from public office for two years.

Councilmember Terry White said he knew of two people interested in Moore’s seat, and Councilmember Cline Rhodes said he knew of three.

With so much interest in the council vacancy by potential candidates, White suggested that the council let the election &uot;settle it out.&uot;

&uot;If that’s everyone’s consensus, we’ll leave it blank,&uot; Moore said.

He also noted the need for a quorum to conduct business and said, &uot;If everyone will make a special effort to be here, we will get by.&uot;

Councilmember Shirley Middleton said if necessary the council could address the matter again
