Two more die in car wrecks

The death toll as a result of vehicle accidents in Shelby County has risen to four in recent weeks.

Two people died in separate accidents in the past week, and two others died in separate accidents on May 23 and 24, according to State Trooper reports.

A

42-year-old Columbiana man, Michael Kenneth Martin, was killed as the driver of a 1985 GMC Safari in a one-vehicle accident Saturday on county Highway 71.

The accident occurred about two miles south of Shelby at about 2:30 a.m., according to Troopers.

Earlier in the week, Troopers reported Franklin Mitchum, 60, of Chelsea was fatally injured as the driver of a 1989 Nissan Sentra in a two-vehicle accident on Jasmine Hill Road about a half-mile north of Pelham on Wednesday, June 2.

According to Troopers the accident occurred at about 4:45 a.m.

Injured in the accident, Troopers reported, was Christopher Jackson, 17, of Birmingham, who was driving a 1997 Chrysler Sebring. He was was transported to UAB Hospital
