Alabaster All-Stars win Metro tourney

After seven games were postponed due to rain in the Hoover East Metro Tournament, the 14-year-old Alabaster National All-Stars finally emerged victorious, beating Oak Mountain 9-7 in the championship game.

During pool play, Alabaster won three games and lost two but swept the winner’s bracket on their way to the championship.

Before knocking off No. 2 seed Oak Mountain, Alabaster, the No. 4 seed, beat No. 5 seed Vestavia, No. 3 seed Mountain Brook and No. 1 seed Hoover East.

To get to the championship game, Oak Mountain had to knock off Mountain Brook, and they did, 18-10.

During the championship game, Alabaster scored first with 1 run in the first inning.

In the bottom half of the inning, Oak Mountain scored 5 runs to take the lead 5-1.

In the top half of the fifth inning, Alabaster struck back when Austin Jenkins’ single sparked a 7-run rally. After Jenkins’ single, Alabaster never relinquished the lead.

Trent Franklin, who came in for starting pitcher Matt Leverett, closed out the game by striking out the side in the seventh, ending the game with eight strikeouts.

Leverett had two RBIs for Alabaster while Brooks Webb went 2-for-3 with three RBIs
