A 24 year-old Alabaster man has been charged with sodomy first degree of a 6-year-old male.

Captain Curtis Rigney of the Alabaster Police Department said Terry Dowdell, 24, of 248 7th Ave. S.W. in Alabaster was placed under arrest for the charge by his department on Oct. 22.

Rigney said the 6-year-old reported the incident to the Department of Human Resources, and DHR reported it to the police department on Sept. 2. Rigney said an investigation followed and Dowdell was placed under arrest. According to Rigney, there may be more charges pending. He said parents of any child who had contact with Dowdell are asked to contact the Alabaster Police Department. At presstime, according to jail records, Dowdell was being held in the Shelby County Jail on $75,000 bond
