Rain halts county tourney

Heavy rains over the weekend led the cancellation of the Shelby County softball tournament after just six games were played in the early rounds.
Pelham was the only team to win a second round game before the remainder of weekend games were cancelled.
Nicole Cornett struck out 11 of the 13 batters she faced to earn the shutout for Pelham.
All nine players in the Panthers lineup earned at least one hit as the team totaled 17 hits.
Trish Zettler was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored while Cristin Crocker scored three runs with two RBIs.
Kayla Dunaway had three hits and four RBIs for Pelham.
Shelby County picked up the school’s first win against Oak Mountain with a 2-1 win over the Eagles in the first round.
In other games: Thompson defeated Chelsea, 19-0; Chelsea defeated Vincent, 19-0; Calera defeated Vincent, 9-0; and Briarwood defeated Montevallo, 6-1
