UM lands two signees

The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team signed two student-athletes to compete for the 2005-06 season.
Willie Shaw, a 6-foot-7 power forward from Virginia,
and Grant Urbanski, a 6-foot point guard have both signed letters of intent to play basketball at UM for the upcoming season.
Shaw was a First Team NJCAA All-Region and First Team All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) selection at Central Arizona College. As a sophomore, he averaged 16 points and 13.3 rebounds per game in 28 games. He collected 21 double-doubles and posted double figures in rebounds in 21 games, including a season-best 23-rebound effort against Pima College. He also shot .601 from the field and .523 from the free throw line.
Shaw competed his freshman season at Butler County Community College in Kansas, and prepped at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va., where he was listed as one the Top 75 Rising Seniors in 2003.
Urbanski was second in the nation (NJCAA) in assists last season at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio. The Brecksville, Ohio native averged 9.1 assists, 13.3 points and 1.6 steals, and competed in the final four of the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. He was named MVP of the NJCAA Division II National Championship Team his freshman season, and averaged 11.4 points, 5.9 assists and 2.2 steals. He collected 10 or more assists in 14 games last season, including a season best 15 assists against Allegheny County Community College
