JAMES &uot;J.D.&uot; DALTON DARDEN

Wilton resident

James &uot;J.D.&uot; Dalton Darden, 74, of Wilton died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, in Alexander City.

He is survived by his daughter, Patsy (Earl) Bamberg of Montevallo and Judy Fochtmann; one sister, Louise Busby of Bogalusa, La.; one brother, Howard Darden of Bogalusa, La.; two grandchildren, Brad (Jami) Bamberg of Helena and Kelly (Donnie) Douglas of Montevallo; and three great-grandchildren, Darrin, Brooke and Danielle Douglas of Montevallo.

Graveside service was July 22 at 11 a.m. at Montevallo Cemetery, the Rev. Tom Hammett directing and Rockco’s Funeral Home directing.

DOCK BENJAMIN DEMENT JR.

Pea Ridge resident

Dock Benjamin DeMent Jr., 91, of Pea Ridge died Saturday, July 23, 2005, in Alabaster. He worked as a teacher for more than 40 years. He was a graduate of Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia, Ark., and received his master’s degree from Louisiana State University. He taught school for more than 40 years, the last 20 of which at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, where he served as a professor of mathematics. He retired in 1980. He was a member of the Masonic Order.

He is survived by his wife, Frances B. DeMent of Pea Ridge; one son, Crit (Mary) DeMent of Westchester, Penn.; four sisters, Susie DeMent, Betty Miles and DeLene DeMent, all of Pea Ridge, and Sadie Mason of Red Level; five grandchildren, Charlotte DeMent, Frances J. DeMent, Dock B. DeMent III, Catherine DeMent and Grace DeMent; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Service will be July 27 at 1 p.m. at Rockco’s Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo, the Rev. Mike Ratliff presiding. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery in Pea Ridge, Rockco’s directing.

PHYLLIS JEAN DOROUGH

Childersburg resident

Phyllis Jean Dorough, 66, of Childersburg died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at home. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Lee Dorough.

She is survived by two daughters, Tammy Sue (Paul) Hamilton and Shirley Jean (Philip) Hamilton, both of Childersburg; her brother, Clifford &uot;Skipper&uot; (Donna) Stark of Pomengy, Ore.; her sister, Jackie (Don) Frandsen of Palmdale, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Service was July 22 at 2 p.m. at Curtis & Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel, the Rev. Freddie Edwards presiding. Burial followed in Mt. Signal Cemetery in Westover, Curtis & Son directing.

JON PATRICK DUKE

Talladega resident

Jon Patrick Duke, 44, of Talladega died July 23, 2005, in Talladega. He was born March 2, 1961, in Alabaster and moved to Talladega in 1970. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patsy Brown Duke, in 1992.

He is survived by his father, Warren C. Duke of Talladega; his daughter, Anna M. Duke of Talladega; his son, Jon Patrick Duke of Talladega; his sister, Patricia D. (George) Hicks of Munford; his brothers, Warren C. (Debbie) Duke Jr. of Talladega and Jeffrey T. (Sandy) Duke of Bon Aqua, Tenn.; three nephews; and two nieces.

Service was July 26 at 11 a.m. at Talladega Funeral Home Chapel, Jeff Rutledge presiding. Burial followed in Elliottsville Cemetery in Alabaster, Brown & Kughn Memory Chapel directing.

EDWARD FUNDERBURK

Selma resident

Edward Funderburk, 76, of Selma died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at Vaughn Hospital. He is survived by his son, Phillip Funderburk of Selma; and his daughter, Brenda Sipe of Panama City, Fla.

Service was July 23 at 1 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Elton Keith and William Short presiding. Burial followed in the Alpine Baptist Cemetery in Plantersville, Martin Funeral Home directing.

MILTON E. &uot;BUDDY&uot; PEARSON

Shelby resident

Milton E. &uot;Buddy&uot; Pearson, 76, of Shelby died July 22, 2005, at a local care facility. He was born April 12, 1929, in Alabaster and was a Korean War veteran, having retired from the U.S. Army in 1968. Following his military retirement, he worked as a carpenter for 17 years. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Jean Pearson.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vassie Pearson; his daughter, Carol Ann (Charles) Ross of Eutaw; his son, Bud (Mary) Pearson of Shelby; six grandchildren, Tamar Jones, Shannon (Candice) Pearson, Jeremy (Hope) Pearson, Joshua (Angie) Jones, Randall (Bobbie) Pearson and Valerie Pearson; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Carol (Dale) Locarno, Doris (Kenneth) Knapp and Mary Kate Vanderleest; three brothers, George (Anne) Pearson, Richard (Ann) Pearson and Billy (Joyce) Pearson; and his sister-in-law, Kathleen Hewitt.

Service was July 25 at 10 a.m. at Bolton-Letlow Chapel, the Revs. Johnny Bryant and Randal Mims presiding. Burial followed in Shelby Garden of Rest Cemetery, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

Samuel Edward &uot;Sammy&uot; Reach, 40, of Montevallo died Saturday, July 23, 2005, in Alabaster.

Service was July 26 at Rockco’s Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo with burial following in Elliottsville Cemetery in Alabaster.
