Roberts deserves up-or-down vote

President George W. Bush has nominated Federal Judge John Roberts to fill the space on the U.S. Supreme Court that was vacated when Justice Sandra Day O’Connor retired.
In an effort to protect what they see as a sacred ruling in Roe vs. Wade, some Democrats have complained about Bush attempting to stack the court in an effort to overturn the Roe vs. Wade abortion rulling of the 1970s.
That may very well be true; however, we wonder how those same Democrats would react should a Democrat president attempt to appoint a more liberal judge to the post for the same reason.
We certainly hope these concerns do not stop the Senate from an up-or-down vote on Roberts’ nomination.
The filibuster debacle which occurred earlier this year must not be allowed for this important position
